About
Liane Whang, MS, LMFT (she/her)
My Story
My path to becoming a therapist wasn't a straight line — it was a calling that emerged from my own healing. Through personal therapy, I first experienced how restorative this work can be, and I knew I wanted to offer that to others. I came to this profession in the second chapter of my life, shaped by my own encounters with motherhood, family of origin dynamics, and intergenerational trauma — experiences that asked me to look honestly at who I was and who I wanted to become.

I bring my whole self into this work. As a second-generation Korean American, I understand the particular experience of navigating nuanced relationships in immigrant families and finding your way through cultural identity struggles. As a first-generation college student, I know what it means to forge a path without a blueprint. As a cycle breaker, I understand the courage it takes to choose something different from what was handed to you.

I am especially honored to work with clients of the Asian diaspora — those navigating the complexity of layered identities, and those who have spent a lifetime holding everything together for everyone else, and are finally ready to turn toward themselves.

My Commitment
Healing doesn't stay contained to one person — it ripples outward, into relationships, families, and communities. I believe wholeheartedly in what I ask of my clients, which is why I remain committed to my own continued growth — engaged in both individual and couples therapy, and living what I ask of you.

Beyond the Therapy Room
Beyond my work as a therapist, I am a partner of twenty years, a mother to two teenagers, and a devoted dog parent to Juniper. My friends describe me as warm, authentic, and curious — which feels right. I am also a content creator, a serial hobbyist, and someone currently practicing their crawl stroke in hopes of completing a full Ironman one day — because apparently I like a challenge.

I share this not to center myself, but because I believe you deserve to know who is sitting across from you. Therapy is a deeply human relationship, and I want you to feel the fullness of that from the moment we meet.

How I Work
I show up to each session with warmth, deep attunement, and gentle curiosity — striving to create a relationship built on trust, safety, and hope, where you feel empowered to share the tender parts of yourself with the assurance you'll be met with compassion and without judgment.

I draw from an integrative toolkit — including Internal Family Systems, Brainspotting, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, CBT, Narrative Therapy, and Attachment-based approaches — always following your lead on what feels most resonant. No two clients are the same, and neither is the work we do together.

If you're ready to begin, I'd be honored to take that first step with you.
